Please note: all collections will consist of only 10 pieces, each of them 1/1 editions. I will only release one collection each year.
The Piece: Violetear Hummingbirds
This piece focuses on the delicate aesthetic and vibrant colours of violetear hummingbirds. Like living jewels, your attention is captivated by their brilliance. Their beauty transcends all cultures and societal ideals, and their aesthetic appeal is inescapable. The frame-by-frame animation is composed of over 150 individual hand drawn images and reflects the lively character of the birds.
Whilst contemporary art is becoming more abstract and convoluted - but animation moves towards perfecting realism - this piece 'breaks the rules' by combining a fundamentally aesthetic traditional work with intentionally simplistic animation. The outcome is something surprisingly captivating.
The 2021 Collection
With the rise of NFTs, we are seeing an artistic revolution gravitating back to the instincts of taste. This will be seen in history as pioneering, and my genesis collection is a celebration of this movement. Kant distinguished between judgement of taste and cognitive judgement. The latter ascribes goodness to things, the former is an instinctive response to something: the feeling you get from encountering something you perceive as beautiful. Too often in Art today this distinction is overlooked, and work with the teleology of taste alone is belittled or mocked. Whilst I enjoy pieces that provoke intellectual stimulation, this is secondary to the primary purpose of a work. It must make you feel something. This collection comprises of pieces that are designed to evoke an instinctive sense of beauty.
The Artist
Anna’s work is primarily an exploration of innate beauty. Her pieces celebrate our emotional connection with fundamental elements of beauty, rather than things we are conditioned by society to think of as 'beauty'. The feelings evoked by beauty of this kind, the beauty found in nature, colour, light, and the human form, are universal and core to our humanity.
Anna studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. Whilst there, she developed her art, working informally and attending classes under the world-renowned tutors at the prestigious Ruskin School of Art. She studied Philosophy of Aesthetics and was particularly taken by Kant’s concept of the judgement of taste; art evokes an instinctive emotional response and thus beauty is innately powerful in its own right.
