This photograph, captured gazing upward within the storied walls of Heal’s in London, my cherished hometown, embodies a quiet reverence for form and ascent. As I contemplated the theme of The Renaissance for this exhibition, I found myself drawn to the era’s celebration of geometric harmony, where proportions and ratios dance in silent precision. The Golden Ratio, a principle revealed to me long ago by a mentor, weaves its subtle magic through this work. Its offspring, the Golden Spiral, unfurls with a graceful rhythm of φ ≈ 1.618, guiding the eye as naturally as a breath. The Rule of Thirds, too, lends its timeless balance, crafting a composition that feels both instinctive and composed. Stairs, to me, hold a deeper poetry — their steady rise a metaphor for life’s measured journey, each step a deliberate passage through time.
