I shop like my mother Two sizes too big Frugality demands- They'll grow into it
Like little penguins in Oversized jackets Sleeves dangling - Bodies swollen with fabric
Cuffs drag across concrete And waistbands fall Jump, bounce - An endless tug of war
And while they rush about I turn to the sink Hands in hot water- Wash, rinse and repeat.
And repeat And repeat
MUM!
I turn with a jump It comes as a shock I want to say the fabric had shrunk But a kid had shot up
Wrists and ankles now exposed A tee-shirt that tugs Time had flowed past- This latest growth spurt
I shop like my mother Two sizes too big And try to watch every moment As they grow into it
