This glacial silence engulfs me / the ash beneath my feet moves as I move / shifting away from my thunderous step / I walked a little bit further to find out if the silence stays / the nearer I get / the smaller I feel / for I am frozen in my position / unable to comprehend that deafening / uncompromising / tone of silence / ringing in my ears.
I feel a sense of solace and envy when thinking back on this moment. This person with no mechanical or digital means to remember this scene, slowly taking it all in with just his sight, beholding this vision for all of eternity in their memory.
This photograph was shot in Iceland, on a Rolleiflex 6x6 Medium Format Camera on Kodak 120mm film, then hand-printed and enlarged in a Colour Darkroom on FUJICOLOR Crystal Archive Paper.
