This piece was made using images I shot of a light installation I created with LED lighting and Murano glass. Venetian glass from the island of Murano is celebrated for its beautiful saturated colors and no matter how little light I shone through this one particular glass, it would continue to reflect its essence onto my wall, which I use as a screen for this type of work.
As I experimented with many different pieces of glass, I observed that certain pieces needed significantly less light in order to reveal the fullness of their expression. As visual artists we are always playing with light and darkness of course and there were several moments during this creative burst with colored glass where I experienced how darkness itself contains the light.
This was shot in the dark night, long after sundown, when the stars are most visible. There is light in darkness.
