I was walking the streets of Athens in the early evening on one of my first days in Greece I listened and looked more closely at my feelings in this new place. on one of the narrow old streets, I looked through the open door and suddenly saw the very epicenter of the life of one family. Intuitively, I understood that they were Greeks. there was no entrance hall in their house and from the street the door opened directly into the living room and dining room or a room that combined everything, I’m almost sure that they all lived in this one space, a little in the distance the open door of the bathroom glew in which clothes were drying, the main room was lit by a very dim lamp and TV.
On the right, hidden from me, stood a sofa; I could only see the edge of it and my bare legs. a man and a woman in the center of the room were eating fish, drinking something and watching TV, a woman's hand flashed in the bathroom hanging clothes. I literally fell into this alien world, pulled there by an incomprehensible force, I heard the smell of fish and cigarettes, listened to incomprehensible speech and could not move on. With peripheral vision, I saw that there was news on TV, people's attention was on TV, mine was on them, no one noticed me.
Suddenly my attention switched to the TV, something tense was happening there, I heard the Ukrainian speech dubbed by the translation, they showed the military chronicles of Ukraine. I stopped looking at people and at the TV and felt a strong longing from the lack of a home, a feeling of loss and loneliness, I felt like a mirage, a fog next to someone's peaceful routine. people in the house probably felt my presence, the man turned towards the door, the woman's face became tense, I hurried to leave, but the ghost of me left sitting in the corner of the room for a long time listening to unfamiliar sounds and watching the game of four people in one room:
fish, a cigarette crackle, a bathroom, harmonica music, the light from the TV, the sound of a chair being pushed across the marble, a cough, a woman's hoarse laughter
