By 1998 DB was starting to get extremely popular. I had been kicked off my ISP webspace for using too much bandwidth and registered my domain name. I finally had a decent job as a web programmer for ACT and a nice paycheck so I decided to invest in a dedicated 3D package and my first choice was Ray Dream Studio (now Carrara) because it was from the same folks who made Bryce3D.
Adding custom models to my scenes allowed me to find my own personal style and move beyond generic mountains, oceans and space scenes. Adding Poser characters allowed me to tell stories with my scenes which satisfied the writer in me.
Gazebo was definitely my most complex modeling project at the time. My poor Pentium could barely handle rendering the crystal (my first attempt at such a surface) but it was wildly popular and remained one of the top wallpapers in my collection until I started using Vue d'Esprit/Lightwave. I've yet to match the pure blue of these waters however.
