The game Flashback holds a special place in my heart. I started playing video games on a Commodore 128, and back then, every leap in graphics felt almost magical. In a handful of years, we went from a few blocky pixels in games like Choplifter to cinematic storytelling and fluid animations in Flashback. It was a time when every screenshot in a magazine could spark weeks of imagination, and Flashback stood out as something groundbreaking and beautiful. Its rotoscoped animations, deep sci-fi plot, and moody atmosphere left a mark on me and influenced my creative path. It deepened my love for sci-fi, and why so much of my pixel art focuses on detailed, architectural, futuristic worlds. For the piece, I used the original sprite of the main character, Conrad, cleaned it up, and animated it within the scene. My tribute blends pixel and voxel art while still trying to honor the original atmosphere. It’s a game that made me see just how artistic and expressive games as a medium could be.
