One of four new pieces inspired by Buoyancy. I was intrigued by the challenges color would pose to these pieces and excited to explore some tricks to speed up the color testing process. We often sacrifice fidelity to speed up a workflow in CG only to regret the loss of subtle, beautiful qualities in the final piece. These four pieces represent a straightforward approach that maintains fidelity and accurate GI bounces.
All of these pieces are inspired by Pepita, a character in a much beloved film, Coco. The artists designed a shader for this character that was speckled with small tufts of emissive hair that really sold the character as an otherworldly beast and connected the character to Alebrijes folklore. I'm mesmerized by the characters in this film and have wondered how the artists made that shader.
I think all-green pallets are powerful. I've only seen Radiohead live once, and during "Like Spinning Plates" they flooded the stage with green light. I'll never forget it.
