The PlayStation 1 – developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Released in Japan on December 3rd 1994 and rolled out globally soon after. As a fifth-generation gaming system, it didn’t just launch a new piece of hardware — it helped redefine what video games could be.
I designed a fictional game cover that captures the sense of wonder and limitless possibility I felt when I first saw titles like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. This piece is my tribute to that feeling.
I tried to directly reference those beautiful covers with the large paintbrush strokes from the MGS cover and the fantasy character design and logo style from FF.
Those games weren’t just fun for me, they opened up whole new worlds and provided much-needed escapism. They widened the scope of my imagination and shaped how I think about storytelling, design and emotion in games. Though I was already an avid Nintendo and PC gamer, it was the PS1 on that tiny CRT TV that truly solidified my love affair with gaming.
This artwork is a reflection of that love — the excitement, the mystery and the magic of discovering something that felt truly new and endless.
An Eternal Ablaze.
