I hated being touched. It felt so unnatural and intrusive that I would shudder at the thought of a hug. Everyone was dangerous and you couldn't tell me otherwise. I remember this day, though. I was sharing coffee with a couple of friends who had only just met but they laughed together as if they'd known each other for a lifetime. The way they embraced each other and smiled with such honesty and with no intentions beyond enjoying the present moment taught me that some of our walls are meant to be torn down. When the time is right, we can learn to embrace touch and appreciate love.
