This is "El Borracho" - 2023, a handmade ink drawing, very much in your Aizpuru style — folk surrealism / magical realism with grotesque humor. He's a campesino: cowboy hat, loose button-up shirt, baggy pants tied at the ankles, boots. His face is exaggerated to the point of monstrous — huge bulging eyes, pointed elf-like ears, wide grin with gritted teeth, mustache and goatee. In his right hand he holds up a bottle, in his left a cigarette. His whole body language is drunken bravado.
Behind and around him, the village tumbles. Small houses with heavily cross-hatched teja roofs are tilted at all angles, clinging to steep, rolling hills that flow like waves. The ground itself is made of long vertical lines, emphasizing the steepness of the slope he is stumbling down. In the background: more hills and mountains fading into a starry night sky — you dotted the sky with stippling and small starbursts. On a distant hilltop sits a small church with a cross, smoke curling from its chimney. Another wisp of smoke comes from a house on the left. On the right edge, a small black dog is leaping. The whole village feels alive and unstable, as if it's spinning with him.
