Portrait of a friend of mine I used to DJ with during the glory days of Venice and EDM culture. At the time I was still vibing off of a post Burning Man stint and every week we would spin a block away from the main promenade. The place we used to spin was a pizza joint turned nightclub ran by a coked out Argentinian who reminded me of the actor Paul Giamatti. We usually would start from about 9 P.M. and spin until 3:30 A.M. Apparently character knew the cops so well that he was able to break normal rules as long as we turned the sound system down as the patrol cars drove by. The last gig ever at that place was when the cops came and ransacked the place because he sold Tecates without an alcohol license. He used Tecates apparently because it looked like Coca Colas in the windows whenever drunks would place their drinks on it. I guess the cops wouldn't care if that was how it was done. I liked the guy for bending the rules though, it made those times pretty whacky and memorable.
