Sometimes, an idea turns into a vision; occasionally, a vision turns into reality. As soon as I learned about the June 2021 partial solar eclipse, I knew I wanted to photograph it alongside one of New York's forest fire lookout towers, as I had done before with planets, stars, and the Moon and Sun individually. Months of virtual and physical scouting, days of prep, and hours of calculations culminated in this single-exposure photo.
When I posted it on Twitter with a behind-the-scenes look at my notes and reference sketch – "The plan / The shot" – it went viral, earning 3.6 million impressions and 660,000 engagements. The piece received write-ups in PetaPixel, My Modern Met, American Photography, and more. I was invited to discuss my technique on the NPR-affiliated space podcast, "Are We There Yet?". It was my first big break. Now, I'm giving you the chance to own this career-defining, life-changing work.
The collector of this 1/1 will receive a 12x18" acrylic print.
