This work records the block that serves as the origin of Dual Existence. The image carved into this block was generated from a code-based drawing, which functions as the starting layer of the work.
From this single block, 108 prints were produced. The number 108 refers to the Buddhist count of earthly desires, symbolizing the many states of doubt, attachment, and fluctuation within a single human existence. Although they share the same origin, each print emerged differently through variations in humidity, pressure, and the artist’s bodily movement.
The physical block was later burned and no longer exists as an object. What remains materially are the prints, which function as witnesses to its origin. This record preserves the block in its state before burning, allowing it to continue to exist beyond its physical disappearance.
