Dive came to be a little later in the process. The chillwave movement was in full swing and I was inspired by the ‘80s sounds of contemporaries like Com Truise and Washed Out. This was a very beat driven song, it started out with just the drums played on a sampler. I then built it up using mostly software synths, which had just started to become convincing enough to use in lieu of the real thing. After the success of the Hours session with Zac he came back out to play on top of Dive and wrote a catchy guitar melody that instantly transformed the song into a beachy kind of pop jam. The working title of this song was “Divergence” and after spending some time with it I finally decided to just shorten it to Dive and felt like that would be an apt title for the album as well. Dive was released as a single shortly after Hours and I wanted to expand on the artwork by introducing a character and a more illustrative composition. Many of the elements in this image would find their way into the final album cover.
