Dissociation is a state in which the natural connection between thoughts, memories, feelings, identity, and reality is lost. A person may feel disconnected from their body, the world around them may seem unreal, or they may forget parts of their past completely. Dissociation is when the mind breaks itself into pieces to survive, to endure the pain; but sometimes these pieces no longer stick together.
