One approach I took in Utah was to wander aimlessly and hopefully find something that interested me. While walking down a random wash in Zion National Park, I came across this plant growing out of a hole in the rock face. I’m always fascinated by the determination of nature. Plants seem to jump out of the most inhospitable places.
I almost didn’t take this photograph. The sun was strong, I was hot and thirsty, and I tend to get lazy at times. Don’t fault me, but I just don’t like getting my camera out of my bag over and over. Looking up, I saw some approaching clouds and decided to wait on them to intercept the sun and give me just the diffused light I needed. I love the greens, reds and oranges paired together. Complimentary colors never disappoint.
The cherry on top of the day was walking out of the slot canyon and seeing a herd of big horn sheep scaling the rock face above me.
