Earth Reversed (Debris) is a virtual sculpture consisting of a 3D scan of a patch of mud that was then digitally sculpted into the shape of a sphere with a slit on one side in the fashion of Lucio Fontana’s Spatial Concept sculptural works. The sculpture was subsequently repainted and animated, with the materials deliberately manipulated to make its interior and exterior obscure each other in irrational ways, as if space is swallowing itself. This work is part of the Debris series, which explores the vibrancy of matter through found objects and textures.
An extended reality (XR) piece created for /Spatial (“slash-spatial”) - the exhibition considering the emergence of Spatial Computing, through the reinterpretation of seminal works by art’s original Spatialist, Lucio Fontana (1899 – 1968).
/Spatial was commissioned for objkt.one and had an augmented reality show at Tech Contemporary, Copenhagen, with simultaneous shows in the Decentraland and OnCyber virtual worlds. 25th April - 1st May 2024.
/Spatial was curated by Bay Backner and Damir First, and commissioned by Kika Nicolela
