After ringing the doorbell, a small elderly man with a crooked stance greeted me at the door. Hubert contacted me because he wanted a photograph of the daisies in his back yard. Usually I wouldn’t take on such a small budget job but there was something about the way he spoke that made me want to help him.
He had a small paved backyard with a few plants growing in garden beds, but it was the daisies that brought him joy every morning. He wanted a framed photograph of them, which he believed would increase the value of his house when he listed it for sale. He was going use the money to travel to Europe.
The idea I had was to photograph the life cycle of the flowers on a black background. He was hesitant at first, but he eventually trusted my creativity. I created this artwork with the 3 stages of the flowers life, but deliberately excluded the wilting and death of the flower.
He never got to Europe due to the pandemic, but I still check in on him from time to time.
