After-work tiles are those roof tiles which, in addition to normal traces of manufacture, have inscriptions, dates or decorations. As a rule, such a “special” tile appears at most once or twice on a roof with several thousand tiles.

In addition to incised years, names, locations, sayings, model impressions, emotions and moods, notes and simple outline drawings, there are also protective and defense symbols or Christian symbols on the after-work tiles. Imprints of animals that have walked over the bricks laid out to dry or secret decorations of the brick boys, bored by the monotonous work, are immortalized on some bricks. Mainly to be found in German-speaking countries. (Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland)
