The clip CONTAGION_PREQUEL_1 RED START is the first in the PREQUEL series and is based on the analogue work CONTAGION, a sequence of thirty plates (metaphotographs), fifteen from the 2013 SERIES and fifteen from the 2021 SERIES, which have as their basic symbol the image of the brain, arranged in a repeated orthogonal grid of twenty-five cells, GRID AS AN ABSTRACTION OF THE WORLD. The figure of the brain symbolizes complexity; it is thought and action together; the brain is the synthesis of the individual, it is the person, not the anatomy, not the multiple tasks that the organ has in our physiology, in the body and in the mind. In the sequential arrangement of the plates, one cell, then another and then another, empties. The appearance and disappearance proceed in a capricious manner – referring to the randomness of existence – refined and modulated by the repetition of the sign, FROM RED TO GREEN AND FROM GREEN TO RED. In cyclic time, the eternal return. THE STORY. A community of individuals, initially neatly crowded together, suddenly and for no apparent reason, gradually leaves empty spaces, transforming the structure achieved, undermining the existing balance until it is reduced to zero. The black frame represents the “pause”. But immediately afterwards, the balance is restored, starting with individuals of different colors, with red giving way to its complementary color, green. THE SEQUENCE, IN ITS CIRCULARITY, COULD REPEAT ITSELF, INEVITABLY, INFINITELY. The clip CONTAGION_PREQUEL_1 RED START tells us the chaos that generated the CONTAGION sequence, before it took on the task of representing the ABSTRACTION OF THE WORLD (one of the possible abstractions of the world or real reality?) and its conceptual SINUSOIDAL EVOLUTION/INVOLUTION. Sketchy figures of the brain alternate with brief flash forwards of what will be the sequence of the panels. Until the new GREEN MATRIX appears, complementary to the one with which the clip began: the RED MATRIX. The soundtrack: metronome slowed down so much that it becomes a creak, a threatening rumble of a storm, allude to a CONTAGION BIG BANG. The clip was presented at Fabrizio Borelli's solo exhibition ‘FIGURAZIONE SENZA TEMPO Contagion 2013 - 2022’ at the MLAC - Museo Laboratorio Arte Contemporanea - Sapienza University of Rome, 15 November - 6 December 2022. https://news.uniroma1.it/15112022_1800
