Dust storms, also known as haboobs, are prevalent in most arid climates around the world. In the United States, these massive miles-high walls of dirt and debris are most frequent in southern Arizona where monsoon thunderstorm complexes create immense outflow winds. The resulting brown mass races to consume everything and everyone within its path. In 2020, I had but a moment in time to pause and compose this shot while in the 110 degree heat just east of Gila Bend, Arizona. This rare capture is a glimpse of the all consuming haboob over the Sonoran Desert.
