Colour, abstraction, photography, collage interaction attempt.
So just by adding what could be referred to as ‘shading’ does that automatically make it a figurative piece? I make abstracts but I allow them to throw shade as if they were an obstruction to the travel of light.
And what about depth of focus? Or the way light falls on curved object?
We read these pieces as objects. They obviously aren’t, unless objects can be one pixel deep? These pieces are hand made, I enjoy using what could very loosely be termed drawing skills that I’ve acquired. Hand/eye possibly wonky drawing skills, but it’s an abstract, does that matter?
These abstractions that are heavily influenced by those lovely Romantics and their need and willingness to transcend the mundane, the every day facts of life, I use colour as a vehicle to take me out of the everyday. I don’t see colours like this wandering around. . . anymore.
Only recently have I started to realise how important different periods of photography and its development has been on my Art education and aesthetic.
Assuming the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) technique of a century ago- photographing objects with a ‘hard-edged realism’ I’ve become interested in making a photograph. A purely abstract, fictional photograph.
As if science could document transcendence.
