On the left side of the painting, there is a trunk of Pau-Brasil lying on the ground in tears, to the right of it an indigenous Brazilian woman looking at the horizon, reflecting her extorted independence while reflecting in a broken mirror next to her in which it had been brought by the colonizing immigrants.
