The Captive Skeleton The Captive Skeleton is a dark and mysterious symbol of trapped death; a skull that no longer dies, bones that no longer rot, the rotten chains or ropes that have bound the departed soul to this earthly world. He is neither alive nor completely dead; in eternal silence, in a forgotten corner of old cemeteries, or deep in misty forests, or under the broken arches of abandoned churches, he stands and stares. As if he is still waiting for something: perhaps liberation, perhaps revenge, perhaps just the end of this meaningless captivity. The Captive Skeleton is a story of something that should have ended, but did not. And this incompleteness makes him more terrifying than any wandering ghost.
