An ancient din, an angel's hymn,

this kiss, divine, that makes us men,

Our birth, aghast,

The earth, abashed,

all that burns is cursed to ash—

This world was the duty of the greats in our caste,

In truth, abused by the fate of our past,

and with its beauty under the weight of collapse,

. . . not all worlds were meant to last.
