Hey all, I’ve blown up my Twitter account a few times over the years, and mostly it’s the dm groups that invariably pull me back, so this time I blew up those too.
As increasingly lately I have wondered, what is it that keeps me here, not Tezos or NFTs especially, but Twitter itself.
There’s nothing more cringe than a flouncey exit or an “I’m out” tweet, so often it can feel like engagement bait, vague bait, vulnerable narcissism or whatever.
For whatever reason something clicked in me this week, something that feels quite final; maybe it was the solar eclipse, maybe it’s the meteors I don’t know. I gave up smoking on a finger snap, and this feels like it.
It’s five years I’ve been doing this now, whatever this is or was, and lately mostly it feels like holding onto a past moment. Sloth has been a huge part of what kept me here so long, a lowkey but essential part of my monthly output. That self imposed brief I will miss. I never really played the pick me dm hustle, never tried to catch the curators’ eyes, as I never really bought it. Things feel a little moribund to me, as if the scene is contracting, and with every excitable new announcement I feel further away from where I want to be as an artist.
And as if I am wasting ever longer amounts of time. Half a decade is a good shout to call it, right?
For those that know me, you probably have my email, or Burka and Ozan do if not, or failing that Ed Marola has my number. I use this username everywhere, and always did, long before hen created our archipelago.
Truth is I’ll be here long after too, still drawing, still writing, still animating, but it’s time to take control of the time suck.
I am approaching 50, and X ain’t it.
Try and hold onto what it’s about. I’ll be around the way.
