Suspended Kicking at the clouds As feet dangle on the edge of oblivion Waiting for the ground to meet again Do I kick it Down the road Along a dust blown path That settles only after The gravel pitted pickups Are laid to rest My list was vast once Full of fantasy and wonder Open ended ever growing A bridge to cross from now to then
When When I'm older When I'm grown When I'm bolder And on my own When I'm healthy And without pain When I'm settled And they know my name When I'm stronger When I'm safe When I've proven My worth of space When I'm seen When I'm loved When I'm cherished By someone Then I'll do it Then I'll see All the things My wildest dreams
It's funny How the weight that pulls And holds me firm and anchored Binds
The ink now spilled Bleeds steady wicking Cross the page Like a wound Blots out lines I've since forgotten
But how do I Release an album When my songs have died Make 10 friends When one broke me when I tried Publish a book When pulp is fiction screened Sing on a stage When I refuse to be seen Touch 3 seas When waters rise See Haida Gwaii When travel means sky Discover species When I seldom see life thrive Own a house When assets are a barrier to care Build an art residency When I can't be sure anyone will be there What else was there bled off the page I can't relate to the author anymore
And now, my list is simple
Hold the hand of a loved one Share a meal Hug my friends And survive
