Brush Strokes

The safety of land slowly disappears in the distance behind me, nothing between me and antarctic. Camera is loaded and I'm full of anticipation for what lays ahead.

Twelve hours from home and three hours out to sea, it's easy to doubt ones decisions. Cold and alone (but not lonely), huge southern ocean swells implode on a small limestone shelf in spectacular form. I become enthralled with the moments in front of me and I fail to recognise the environment change around me. Clear skies change into storms and the faint headland behind me disappears into darkness. Just a small glimmer of light shines down on the lone peak in the middle of nowhere.

Still to this day it was some of my most rewarding hours of photography. The ocean illustrating it is the ultimate creator. Electric blues shine through the dark grey skies. Perfect natural light beaming down to showcase the small desolate stretch of reef. A perfect canvas to create.

As the rain begins to set in I point myself towards what I think is land. With barely five meters visibility I begin to crawl towards my camp in a hope to make it back safe. Smiling at the thought of what I had captured.
