Brainstorm (1999)

A self-portrait of sorts. By 1999 DB was becoming quite popular. I had over 100 renders in my gallery and was sometimes uploading 2 or 3 a week. Some folks even thought I was actually multiple artists (a misconception that continues to this day).

I am actually just one artist with a very overactive imagination😄.

All the time I am asked "Where do you get your ideas?" and it's a tough question to answer. I know most of what I render starts away from the computer, when I am just living my life and observing the world around me.

This piece tries to depict the storm of ideas that's always raging inside my head. Getting a good idea is never a problem for me. My goal is always to maintain focus on it and see it through to fruition.

Tech Note: This was actually my first experience using alpha maps. Created using Bryce3D and Poser.
