"Body Ritual Code" is a multidisciplinary audiovisual piece that explores the intersection of human bodies, digital coding, and metaphysical concepts. The work visually presents a woman engaged in a ritualistic gesture toward the sky, set against a glitch-infused backdrop where two circles converge, representing bodies and the space they generate between them. The piece is a meditation on life, mass, and the curvature of space, inspired by black hole theory—where mass draws mass, and density forms an escape.
VIDEO At the heart of the video is a poetic sequence that emerges through code, as if typed by an unseen machine. The poetry reflects on the creation of life through the intersection of two entities, metaphorically presented as circles. As the words "BODY = CIRCLE, BODY = CIRCLE" are repeatedly typed, the main focus of the poetry maintains: "life exists in the difference, in the leftover space between two intersecting circles. The culmination of mass and density bends and shapes the reality around them, drawing parallels to the warping of space-time."
AUDIO: The audio component complements this visual and textual narrative with an 8-minute soundtrack of syncopated rhythms, sublow tones, and influences of footwork and juke. This frenetic and deep soundscape reflects the intensity of the mass and density ideas explored in the visuals.
Technically, "Body Ritual Code" merges analog and digital worlds. The code for the poetry and the generative graphic of two circles were programmed on a vintage MSX BASIC 1.0 system. The raw video was then processed through a series of analog video synthesizers, including the Kolorizer, Viddy ROT Mixer, and Mis Pettite Deluxe, all designed by Freedom Enterprise (Pedro Silva). These devices lend the video its distinctive glitch aesthetic, layering the digital and physical realms with a sense of nostalgic futurism.
The result is a piece that interrogates the nature of human existence, space, and technology, blurring the boundaries between organic ritual, digital logic, and cosmic forces.
