Blast

The sculpture of the dragonslayer represents man’s spiritual breakthrough. Facing his demons takes courage; defeating them takes strength. But the battle is essential to fulfill his purpose in life.

Blast from a name standpoint is actually a nod and a wink to the British Vorticists and their first and only publication entitled “Blast”. The Vorticist movement has deeply inspired me as I feel it carries that early 1900s modernist vitality.

This is the digital record of the original clay maquette for the monumental stone work "Blast".

A clay maquette doesn't last, yet I wasn't prepared to lose it. The maquette holds the raw energy of creation inside it: hours of contemplation, playing with form, balancing shapes and perfecting details, all consolidated in a small model. The NFT eternalises this clay model.
