This piece is part of BeautifulSoup, a series that examines authorship, extraction, and the afterlife of images within systems trained on scraped cultural material. These forms emerge from borrowed histories — fragments of art, photography, and human intention absorbed into computation and stripped of clear origin. I am interested in the point at which that accumulated material resolves into something singular and self-possessed. In Crown, complexity condenses into a compact vertical form that holds tension between density and emergence. The work enters into dialogue with Brâncuși at that threshold, where reduction becomes a way of clarifying presence and allowing form to carry meaning with directness and restraint.
