L'autonomia è la capacità di prendere una decisione informata e non costretta che si avvicina al concetto di libertà. Tuttavia, l'esistenza di una libertà assoluta è dubbia poiché l'autonomia e la libertà individuale trovano il loro limite nella libertà e nell'autonomia di terzi e nell'accettazione della responsabilità e delle conseguenze che ne derivano. La mente umana è libera e allo stesso tempo prigioniera di diversi livelli di autonomia e libertà regolati dalla responsabilità sulle proprie scelte e comportamenti.

In tal senso, l'opera rappresenta un nucleo, prigioniero e libero in una micro-sfera mentale e macro-sfera sociale di luci ed ombre, libertà e responsabilità, che creano una cornice, limitano e rendono libero il nostro pensiero e comportamento autonomo.
