As it falls
Escaping from a darkened cloud Racing to the bottom Shimmering and gleaming edge Weightless liquid ovum A feather glanced While in flight As birds danced Though ribbons of light. Striking the canopy, Splitting, Shattering, Pulled irresistibly Down. Down. Down. Fragments made To reassemble Directed through Cavernous channels Gently held against the surface Along branched veins and velvet leaves As if by memory The surface tension breaks The gathering, the weight, the fall, . . . Rippling across gnarled bark, Descend. Lichen ancestors Witness again The pattern replayed, Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Strike the ground A muffled softness Explore around a Maze of mosses Pulled through the mirror Into soil No longer clearer Made to toil Skeleton branches strain Delegate roots leach From a small forgotten grain Delicate shoots reach . . . And all because of rain.
