The Artificial Liight series was created over 24 months, 2021-2023. The artist shot all the images. Abstract Expressionism has heavily influenced my style, and painting was a part of my past. After the mandatory foundation year at Art School, I decided to change my major to Film. The Film BFA program at The Philadelphia College of Art was co-headed by the late renowned photographer Ray K Metzker. Who was known for his assembled film strips and abstract photography? While I am proficient in photography, I think of myself as a mixed-media artist who uses photographic images in his work. I love photographing landscapes to capture unique places I have visited and later return to vicariously re-live. About two years ago, I was invited to an international art residency PILOTENKUECHE out of Leipzig, Germany. One of the first group assignments involved positive and negative space. I made a short animated film about Abstract Expressionism, which best uses the concept of positive and negative space. As an example, I used still images of other artists like Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell. To keep things interesting, I used the soundtrack from Dave Rubecks 'Take Five" and animated a black dot that grew and bounced throughout the different images of my Film. Liking its visual effect, I later applied the concept to a few of my landscape images. I used linear and geometric overlays to add an additional element. Out of my own insecurity about the idea, the images sat on my hard drive. I've received a great deal of positive feedback and decided to present the images to this show. They are offered here in limited editions of ten. I print all my own work with an Epson Stylus Pro 3880, which uses archival chromian inks. I've chosen Epson Signature Worthy 100% cotton rag 340 g/m cold press paper because it produces the best color for my purpose.
