When i was in Paris, i was drawn to these designated poster spaces in metros. One poster stuck on top of each other, some torn off, crumbling, thick; layers and layers of musicians, cinema, sports, commercials and some vandalised by public too, by scribbling.
These interventions led to abstract imagery formed within those framed borders. I then methodically travelled across all the metro rail routes, stopping at all stations. Carefully observing how each poster space had evolved over time and deterioration, documenting photographically these abstracts that were formed with time, erosion and human intervention. I titled the project "Art Vandal" as i believed these actions and interventions shape up the final form that i was able to observe then.
I was not sure of how to exhibit these images with the same effect that one could have while viewing those frames in metro station. Hence it lay dormant for years with me. When i was introduced to Async Art and programmable art I was curious to explore this project in terms of interactivity. Hence I pulled different elements from around 75 images as individual layers. With each layer the viewer/buyer has the choice to change between different elements, thus giving rise to unique set of abstracts with different backgrounds depending on the choices made.
This way of showcasing the project, I believe hold justice to the whole idea itself, not letting go off the various interactions that go in to creating a unique piece every time; just like those poster frames.
