The European apple tree or common apple tree, is a tree of the Rosaceae family, cultivated for its fruit, appreciated as food. Its domestication seems to begin more than 15,000 years ago in the region west of the Tian Shan Mountains, on the border between Kazakhstan and China. It was introduced in Europe by the Romans and today there are about 1000 varieties/cultivars, as a result of countless hybridizations between wild forms. It is a great source of vitamins.
