As a person of colour living in a foreign country, I have been told one time too many that I have to be a certain way to make it here.
Anonymous (otherwise known as The Faceless Collection) is how I processed my feelings about this. I did it to not only speak for myself, but for others like me.
The pieces of the collection ‘Autonomy’, ‘Body’ and ‘Blithe’ are my response to the things we have been told by our oppressors.
Women are visualized in this collection because in our community they are twice as oppressed, and I’m trying to depict them as bold, unabashed defiance to this oppression.
These pieces are faceless because they are you, they are me, and most importantly they are women of color in our community that just want to be independent, carefree and happy doing their thing.
