Chehlsotoun Most of the colors used in the forty-column palace paintings and all the materials that the Safavid period artists used to create the paintings of this magnificent palace were natural. Colors include mineral dyes such as white flowers, colored soils, gold, plant dyes such as rhubarb and walnuts, and animal dyes such as the color of an insect called red seed.
