This piece is bittersweet. Today, July 29, is that last day I will live in DC after 10 years of calling this city my home. This city gave me an education, a career, a family, and my daughter. We explored every inch of it, and enjoyed every experience we had.
One of the first weekenders we had was to Shenandoah National Park, too many years ago. This was pre-camera, pre-baby, pre-end-of-the-world-pandemic. After the first visit, I found myself there about 10-15 times per year, mostly in the fall, my favorite season.
This park became our backyard. And we took so many of our friends and family with us when they visited us so they could get to know it too.
Change is hard, but sometimes, it can be beautiful, like the seasons I grew fond of. But, for now, they will remain with me, in memory.
