"Old and sad yellow dog... Some locals called him Meda (which means Bear), some called him grandaddy Benji. Many of them just referred to him as ""sad, old yellow dog"". Many of them did nothing to help him. I remember seeing him sleeping on a island of a crosswalk, not disturbed or distracted by the traffic. He was sunbathing... Those were the last sunny days in a year and he was making best out of them. I thought to myself, no one deserves to be left alone on the street like that, reckoning that his age was probably a reason why he was here. By my free assessment he was 12+ years old. We had a spare doghouse in our yard, as my previous dog Bonnie was put down because of the illness. Benji wasn't supposed to fill in the void, but just to survive the winter with roof over his head and regular meals. However, his health condition was poor, as he lived on the streets for too long. He was diagnosed with anaplasmosis (thick disease) and full mouth of rotten teeth. That got fixed quite successfully, however recently, he was not doing good. Vet diagnosed him with prostate cancer with metastasis on spleen. He isn't able to empty his bladder and day by day he is getting progressively worse. We tried catheters, medications, we even considered a surgery. Bottom line is that he's not going to get better. Palliative care for terminaly ill animal costs. Not to suffer costs. Some people don't see problem in it, but I do... There's a cost for everything and if you can't afford medical care, you / your dog/ your child/ your parent is going to suffer before he/she/it dies. That doesn't seem fair or logical, but reality is often far from logical. All I want is to provide for palliative care for this amazing guy that I grew very fond of. I learned a lot about life from him and most important takeaway was - you're never too old to feel happy or loved again. ,<3 Benji was sunbathing even today... He looked peaceful and tranquil. Once he stared panting, he got his painkillers. He was grateful for all the care and he trusts that we have his back... We don't... We need money to make his last days comfortable. I don't want to let him down like bunch of other people that just looked at him, pittied him and did nothing. For Benji <3 For old yellow fella that stole my heart.
