1987

A study of nostalgia, dream-like environments and 1980's interior design & aesthetics. A soft lit home with minimalist decor gives a warm feeling of familiarity, yet also a cold sinking feeling of loneliness. Key elements in nostalgic imagery arise feelings of comfort, but as we realize the passage of time from the setting of the imagery to our present, it begans to create an emotion of longing for a time that once was. This piece was created to further understand how a feeling of nostalgia can be created through artificial spaces that the viewer has not yet truly experienced in real life. If we truly immerse ourselves here in this piece, allow our minds to fully experience it and be convinced by our emotions, it becomes difficult to discern whats real. To me this message is powerful and speaks to the future of art and design. It is one of the main reasons I pursue recreating nostalgia through art.
