"OOOOO" (2023) by Yang Jiechang is a video, which shows the artist writing and pronouncing the word "OOOOO". Yang Jiechang often uses calligraphy and the process of writing in his work. "OOOOO" is linked to an experience the artist had during the Covid-19 pandemic. Confined to his home, he heard his neighbors' voices of enjoyment, a positive sound in a world of isolation and uncertainty. Yang, who uses errors and flaws as an integral part of his calligraphic practice, asked students at the Ecole des Mines to develop a digital writing tool that would allow for this kind of flaw.
